Organised by EBMA (European Bluegrass Music Association) and the Jam Hall association, this summer 2022 event will be hosted by the Bluegrass In La Roche Festival and is open to every... No, not open to everybody. If you are older than 16, sorry, too late for you!
If you never enjoyed the Bluegrass In La Roche Festival (La Roche Sur Foron, Haute-Savoie, France), you should consider it. Not only for the main stage concerts with great international stars, but also for the downtown concerts during the street festival, the jams, the international La Roche Bluegrass Workshop, the intimate concerts on the lunch scene.
Or just for the vibes on the festival site or downtown, the croziflette (pasta and Savoie cheese specialty), the vegan hamburger, the green Genepy beer or the blueberry one.
Inspired by the California Bluegrass Association Kids On Bluegrass project, this 2022 international event aims to assemble for the first time young European musicians (from 6 to 16 yo) to discover and enjoy a bluegrass experience during a dedicated workshop, during the festival.
Scheduled on three morning sessions on the 4th, 5th and 6th of August 2022, the workshop will end with a short performance on the festival lunchtime stage. The teachers are Julia Zech, Maribel Rivero, Lluis Gomez (yes !) and your humble servant.
Level and bluegrass knowledge wil be different. We will work on playing together with simplicity, on two easy tunes, in the bluegrass tradition.
Vocals, back up with the instrument, solos, listening to other players, how to behave on stage, independance.
Instruments : guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, bass, dobro, ukulele.
Each three hours morning session is planned with different short periods with breaks and in a playful mood.
To be able to play a simple melody and a few basic chords (G, C, D, A).
each kid must be accompanied by one parent or guardian. Languages will be English, French, Spanish and German.
Best of all, this year registration for the three days is... 30 €.
Kids on Bluegrass Europe an EBMA project, hosted by Bluegrass In La Roche and organised in 2022 by the Jam-Hall association (France). Other participating associations in the preparation and organisation of KOB Europe are Barcelona Bluegrass Camp, Czech Bluegrass Music Association, Cologne Bluegrass Bash.
